Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums rallied from a five-run deficit over the final three innings of regulation baseball, but the Windy City ThunderBolts plated three runs in the top of the eleventh to claim a 9-6 win.

Trailing 6-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Kyle Colligan got things started for the Beach Bums with a single. Sean Gusrang lined a ball to center that handcuffed Windy City outfielder Jareck West, putting Gusrang on first and advancing Colligan to second. Marcus Nidiffer followed with a walk to load the bases. Kyle Eveland stepped to the plate and lined a single through the left side of the infield to score Colligan and Gusrang, cutting the deficit to 6-3. A walk to Brian Heere would reload the bases for Ryan Still who lifted a sac fly to center, plating Nidiffer. Chase Burch capped the rally in the frame with a single to score Eveland and make it 6-5.

The game would remain that way until the ninth when with one out in the bottom of the inning, Still singled. Two batters later, Burch drove the first pitch he saw from Michael Click over the head of West in center to bring home Still and tie the game at 6-6. Unfortunately for Traverse City, that was where the comeback concluded as after a scoreless tenth, the ThunderBolts brought home three, eleventh inning runs to post the win.

Click (1-1) earned the victory with Willy Kesler notching his second save. Scott Mueller (1-4) took the loss for the Beach Bums.

Early on, it appeared that Windy City would have an easy time of things as after the two squads traded first inning runs, the ThunderBolts got three unearned runs in the third, two on a Brandon Decker double and two more in the fifth on a Zach Aakhus homer to build their lead.
