Normal CornBelters News Release
MARION - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, lost a pitchers' duel on Wednesday night to the Southern Illinois Miners 3-0 at Rent One Park.
The Miners entered the scoring column in the second inning when Chad Maddox led off with a double, and after a walk to Ken Gregory, scored on a single off pitcher Tyler Lavigne's foot into left field.
The hosts put two more on the board in the third when Jake Kaase singled and Cory Harrilchak doubled to lead off the inning and put runners at second and third, and both scored on ground balls to the infield to put the Miners ahead 3-0 going to the fourth inning.
Both pitchers went the distance, as Daniel Calhoun (5-2) scattered just four CornBelters hits to earn the win, while Tyler Lavigne (4-6) gave up seven hits with four walks and nine strikeouts in his longest outing of the season in the loss.
The CornBelters conclude the series on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. as left-hander Jacob Liedka (2-7, 3.97 ERA) takes the ball for the Belters against Miners lefty Shawn Gilblair (7-4, 3.72 ERA). Pre-game on WJBC.com begins at 6:50.
