Clinton LumberKings News Release
Dayton, OH - One night after the LumberKings and Dragons put up a flurry of runs, they were hard to come by on Friday night at Fifth Third Field but Dayton scored late and stole a 7-1 win. The two teams managed a combined two runs through the first seven innings as the game was tied 1-1 into the eighth before the Dragons blew the doors open with six runs.
Clinton got on the board first when Jharmidy De Jesus ripped a 2-out double down the right field line to score Jabari Blash. It stayed 1-0 until the fifth inning when Dayton tied it on a sac fly from Yovan Gonzalez.
David Colvin got out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the seventh inning but John Taylor couldn't work out of a major jam in the eighth. Dayton took advantage of two errors by De Jesus, collected five hits in the frame and scored six times in the inning for a 7-1 lead. The LumberKings went quietly in the ninth against Dayton reliever Carlos Gonzalez who picked up the win in relief.
Dayton got a great start from right-hander James Allen who allowed one run on four hits in a season-high seven innings. He also notched a season-best seven strikeouts and did not walk a batter.
Clinton got another solid start from Bobby Shore who was making his second professional start. Shore was unscathed through the first four innings but allowed a sac fly in the fifth to Dayton catcher Yovan Gonzales. The right-hander took a no-decision after allowing the one run on three hits in five innings.
Despite the loss, Clinton took the series two games to won and heads south for a three-game set with front-running Bowling Green of the Eastern Division. Clinton sends right-hander Mayckol Guaipe (1-0, 4.91) to the hill and the Hot Rods counter with left-hander Felipe Rivero (7-7, 2.37) in game one. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 CST.
