Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - Another late-inning rally staged another extra-inning contest which turned into a loss for the Kane County Cougars, 5-4, to the Beloit Snappers on Tuesday at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
Down 4-1 entering the bottom of the eighth inning, Lane Adams drew the Cougars (27-25) within two as he punched out a solo home run off A.J. Achter. In the ninth, Achter coughed up the lead as Danny Mateo and Jorge Bonifacio slugged back-to-back home runs, tying the game at 4-4.
Beloit (31-21) built the lead early as they scored three times in the first off Kellen Moen before the first out was recorded. Nate Roberts cracked a two-run homer after a triple by Wang-Wei Lin. Eddie Rosario followed that with a solo shot while Miguel Sano also went deep for the Snappers, blasting his 13th dinger in the third inning.
After fighting back to send the game to extras, the Cougars let a run score in the 11th as Jhon Goncalves blooped a ball to shallow right which fell in for a double. On the throw to second base, the ball got away and rolled to the left field line, allowing Goncalves to score the go-ahead run. It was the only tally surrendered by Matt Ridings (3-2) in five innings of relief. David Hurlbut (2-0) worked a round a couple runners in the bottom of the 11th to patch the win.
The Cougars are on the road Wednesday night when they take on the Clinton LumberKings from Ashford University Field at 7:00 p.m. Right-hander Brooks Pounders (3-1) starts for the Cougars against southpaw Jeremy Dobbs (0-1). You can listen to the broadcast on AM 1280 WBIG and www.kccougars.com, beginning with Cougars on Deck at 6:45 p.m. The Cougars return to Fifth Third Bank Ballpark on Saturday night when they battle the the Peoria Chiefs (Chicago Cubs Affiliate) at 6:30 p.m. For tickets, please call (630) 232-8811 or visit www.kccougars.com.
