South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

MIDLAND, MICHIGAN - The South Bend Silver Hawks squandered a 5-2 ninth inning lead before falling to the Great Lakes Loons 6-5 in 10 innings Tuesday at Dow Diamond. The Silver Hawks (27-25) and Loons are now in a third place tie, a game behind the second place Bowling Green Hot Rods who defeated the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Tuesday.

Jesse Bosnik's RBI single in the tenth inning plated Angelo Songco and sent the Loons to their second extra-inning win over the Silver Hawks this season. South Bend is now 5-2 in extra innings in 2012 and suffered just its second loss when leading after eight innings.

The Loons tied the game with three runs in the ninth inning off right-hander Matt Sample. Scott Schebler hit an RBI double and Joe Winker added an RBI single to pull the Loons to within a run. Schebler later scored the tying run on a throwing error from Josh Parr. Sample allowed three runs - two earned - on two hits over 0.2 inning.

J.R. Bradley started for South Bend and departed with the Silver Hawks leading 5-2. The right-hander went five innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits. Jose Dominguez started for the Loons and surrendered five runs - four earned - on six hits over three innings.

The Silver Hawks scored three runs in the first inning off Dominguez. Matt Helm put the Hawks on the board with an RBI fielder's choice. Fidel Pena put South Bend up 3-0 with a two-RBI single to right field. The Loons answered in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run home run from Songco.

South Bend lengthened the lead to 5-2 with a two-run third inning. Ryan Court and Parr added RBI singles for the Silver Hawks. Court and Pena each recorded three hits for South Bend.

Right-hander Blake Perry worked three unblemished innings and struck out three out of the Silver Hawks bullpen.

The Silver Hawks meet the Dayton Dragons Wednesday night at Fifth-Third Field. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. Right-hander Archie Bradley (6-1, 3.06) starts for South Bend and he will be opposed by Radhames Quezada (1-6, 4.56).
