Clinton LumberKings News Release
Burlington, IA - Looking to salvage the road trip with a win in the finale against Burlington, the LumberKings came up short and dropped Tuesday night's game, 7-2. Burlington starter A.J. Cole was a combined 0-7 with a 7.95 ERA between A+ Stockton and Burlington this year but pitched six solid innings for the Bees. Cole allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out seven to earn his first win of the calendar year.
Burlington got on the board against Clinton starter Ambioris Hidalgo with two runs in the third and a single tally in the fourth inning. The LumberKings came back with a tally in the fifth inning on a RBI groundout by Mario Yepez and another tally in the sixth when Jabari Blash scored Dillon Hazlett with a base hit.
John Taylor relieved Hidalgo in a bases-loaded jam with two outs in the sixth inning and got Sean Jamieson to fly to center for the third out of the inning. It stayed 3-2 until the bottom of the eighth inning when Burlington scored four times off LumberKings reliever Tim Griffin. The four runs came on four hits, which all went for extra bases.
A slick 6-4-3 double play turned by Sean Jamieson and Chih-Fang Pan erased a Clinton threat in the ninth as they put the first two runners on against Max Perlman. Perlman earned his second save of the year and Hidalgo was saddled with his team-high seventh loss.
The LumberKings close the road trip with two wins and five losses and return home for a six-game home stand starting Wednesday night against the Kane County Cougars. Left-hander Jeremy Dobbs (0-1, 1.69) gets the nod for Clinton and right-hander Brooks Pounders (3-1, 2.61) toes the rubber for Kane County. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
