Lugnuts Win Back and Forth Game 10-9

Lake County Captains News Release


(LANSING, MI) - The Lansing Lugnuts (37-14) defeated the Lake County Captains (25-26) by a final of 10-9 on Tuesday night in Lansing, Michigan. Lansing entered the bottom of the fourth inning trailing the Captains by a score of 7-5. The ended the inning with a 10-7 lead. Carlos Perez walked and scored on a triple by Chris Hawkins to score the first run. Kevin Pillar tied the game when Hawkins scored on Pillar's infield single. With two runners on K.C. Hobson unloaded a three run homer (his fourth of the season) to right field and the Lugnuts took the 10-7 Lead.

In the first inning, the Lansing Lugnuts took a 2-0 lead. The Lugnuts scored a run on a wild pitch and a run on a passed ball. They also worked two walks and had two singles in the inning. Heading to the second it was a 2-0 Lansing lead.

Lake County took the lead in the second inning as they scored five times. Jordan Smith led off the inning with his third homer of the season. He hit it to right center field. The Captains went on to bat around and Leonardo Castillo sparked the inning with a two run double. Robel Garcia followed Castillo with a double of his own and the score was 4-2 Captains. Lake County tacked on one more in the inning and took a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the second.

In the bottom of the second inning, with two outs, Jon Berti scored on a double by Carlos Perez and it was a 5-3 game. Lake County added two runs in the top of the third inning when Leonardo Castillo singled home Alex Lavisky to push the lead to 6-3. Todd Hankins singled home Castillo and the lead grew to 7-3. Heading to the bottom of the third, the Captains were up by four but Lansing answered. Andy Burns doubled and scored on a single by Kenny Wilson and then Wilson swiped second base and scored on a single by Markus Brisker and the score heading to the fourth was 7-5 Lake County.

Lake County made it interesting in the eighth inning. The Captains scored two runs. The big hit in the inning was a single by Alex Lavisky. Lavisky's single made the ballgame a one run game it was 10-9 Lansing heading to the bottom of the eighth inning.

LHP David Rollins (4-0) got the nod for Lansing and lasted just one and two thirds innings. Rollings didn't factor in the decision, and gave way to Eric Brown. Brown's line was 1.0 IP 3 H, 2 ER, BB, 2 K. Aleson Escalante (1-0) earned the win. Escalante's final line was 3.2 IP 2 H, 2K. Ajay Meyer picked up his 18th save of the season after working a perfect ninth inning.

LHP Elvis Araujo (2-4) took the ball for the Captains and lasted three innings. Elvis gave up seven hits, five runs, four earned, two walks and two strikeouts. Newcomer Luis DeJesus (0-1) relieved Araujo and was saddled with the loss. DeJesus went three innings gave up four hits, five runs all earned, three walks and struckout two. He also gave up the homer to Hobson. Manny Carmona and Jeff Johnson both pitched scoreless innings for the Captains. Johnson struck out the side in his inning.

The Captains return home to Classic Park on Wednesday for the start of a six game home stand. The Captains will play host to West Michigan Wednesday night. Feed Your Face Night is on Wednesday featuring all-you-can-eat food package for only $10 with unlimited hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn and chips throughout the game. Game time is 7 PM. The Captains will send RHP Joe Colon (5-4, 2.93 to the hill against RHP Tommy Collier (2-4, 3.04) for West Michigan.
