
Brian Diemer joins Kernels from Tempe; Michael Clevinger to DL

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce that RHP Brian Diemer will join the Kernels from Extended Spring Training in Tempe, AZ and that RHP Michael Clevinger has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with a right arm injury. Mike LaCassa, Minor League Operations Manager for the LA Angels, announced the move on Monday.
The Angels selected Diemer, 24, in the sixth round of the 2010 Free Agent Draft out of California-Berkley. He played for the Kernels in 2011, posting a 9-11 record and 4.07 ERA in 26 games (25 starts) with two complete games and one shutout. In 132.2 IP, he allowed 145 hits and 76 runs (60 earned) with 44 walks and 75 strikeouts.
Clevinger made eight starts for the Kernels with a 1-1 record and 3.73 ERA. In 41 IP, he allowed 37 hits and 18 runs (17 earned) with 13 walks and 34 strikeouts.
Diemer will start the first game of the Kernels doubleheader with Quad Cities on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 pm. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster remains at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with one player on the disabled list.
The Kernels continue their five game series with Quad Cities on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 pm with a doubleheader, consisting of two, 7-inning games. The Zooperstars will be on hand to entertain fans of all ages throughout the game. It's also a 104.5 KDAT Sunday Run the Bases where fans can get autographs from the Kernels before the game, play Travel Advisors Baseball Vacation Bingo for a chance to win a trip to Anaheim in 2013 during the game, enjoy Papa Balloon and face painting by Funny Face Designs by Lori and run the bases and play catch in the outfield after the second game. Gates open at 1 pm.
