Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - Jeff Malm hit a solo home run and drove in a pair, but the Bowling Green Hot Rods (26-24) were beaten 3-2 on Sunday night by the Fort Wayne TinCaps (24-26) at Parkview Field. Hot Rods starter Robert Gomez posted a career-high seven innings, allowing just one run, but received a no decision. The TinCaps broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the eighth to even the four-game series at one game apiece.
The Hot Rods struck for a run just three batters into the game. Leadoff man Ryan Brett began the game with a triple into the gap in left-centerfield. Two batters later, Brett scored on Jeff Malm's RBI-groundout to second base. Despite scoring early, the Hot Rods managed just one more hit through the next seven innings.
The TinCaps scored the next three runs in the game with one in the fifth and two runs in the eighth. The Hot Rods nearly came back in top of the ninth. Malm homered on the first pitch of the inning for his fifth home run of the season, but the next three Hot Rod hitters were retired and the TinCaps locked up the victory.
Both teams are back in action on Memorial Day at 2:05 PM CDT at Parkview Field for the third contest in the four-game set. The Hot Rods will give the start to RHP Jake Floethe (5-1, 3.04), while the TinCaps will counter with RHP Cody Hebner (5-1, 3.28).
