BURLINGTON, Iowa (5/27/12) - For the second consecutive game the Burlington Bees (22-27) blew a save, but hit a home run in the eighth inning to reclaim the lead. On Sunday afternoon, Rashon Dixon launched his first home run over the left- field wall to help the Bees win 8-to-7 over the LumberKings (17-32).

Brent Powers came into the game with only three starts this season and an ERA north of eight in those starts. Once again the lefty struggled. Powers took care of the first batter with a strikeout, but then allowed the next five batters to reach. Four of those batters reached with hard hits and the last batter, Steve Baron sent one to deep right-center field. The shot bounced off the top of the wall then hit the scoreboard and bounced back in play. The drive was good for a three-run home run and the LumberKings led 4-to-0 early.

The Bees responded with two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a wild pitch and a throwing error. Sean Jamieson and Douglas Landaeta scored the first two runs of the game for the Bees.

But Powers couldn't maintain the momentum and allowed back-to-back home runs to the number eight and nine hitters in the LumberKings' lineup. Ramon Morla hit his second home run of the year on the first pitch in the second inning and An- thony Phillips hit his second home run against the Bees this year to extend Clinton's lead to four runs again.

The Bees responded again in the bottom of the second inning by scoring two runs. Newcomer Rashun Dixon led off the inning with a single in his first at bat as a member of the Burlington Bees. Dixon was recently demoted from the Stockton Ports and made his Bees debut on Sunday. Dixon, as well as John Nester eventually scored on a base hit to right field by Chih-Fang Pan.

The Bees trailed 6-to-4 entering the fourth inning and received another big hit from Pan. With two outs, Nester and Jamieson each hit singles before Pan stepped up the to plate with runners at the corners. Pan smacked a ball to centerfield for a two- run triple. Vollmuth eventually scored Pan on a base hit to left. The Bees led 7-to-6 until the sixth inning when reliever Jose Macias allowed Clinton to tie the game.

But the tie game merely set the stage for another eighth inning go-ahead home run. This time it was Rashun Dixon lifting the first pitch of the bottom of the eighth over the leftfield wall. The Bees took a 7-to-6 lead and held on with the help of Jeff Urlaub and Drew Tyson in the ninth.

The Bees play game three on Monday at 2 p.m. and celebrate Memorial Day with a Dollar Monday promotion. For informa- tion on Bees baseball and promotions, call (319) 754-5705 or visit www.gobees.com.
