Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Brandon Inge went 5-for-5 with seven RBIs and Bruce Billings tossed eight shutout innings Saturday night, treating 11,326 fans to a 10-0 River Cats victory over the Reno Aces at Raley Field.
Inge-on a Major League rehabilitation assignment-had a single, two doubles and two home runs, falling just one RBI short of tying the all-time River Cats record of eight, set by Cody McKay in 2002 and tied by Dan Johnson in 2004. His first home run was a towering blast that landed on top of the clubhouse beyond the left field fence, and his second was a grand slam to the Jackson Rancheria Home Run Terrace down the left field line. The Oakland third baseman has gone a combined 6-for-7 with eight RBIs in two rehab games with the River Cats.
Inge's big night overshadowed a near-perfect pitching performance by Bruce Billings (4-1), who spun eight scoreless frames, allowing just three hits and tying a River Cats season high with eight strikeouts. He did not walk a batter, and moved into sole possession of second place on the PCL ERA leaderboard at 2.63.
Reno starter Patrick Corbin (0-1) was tagged with the loss in his first-career Triple-A appearance. Corbin surrendered four earned runs in five innings, striking out five and walking five.
Derek Norris also homered for Sacramento, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Manny Ramirez-playing his seventh game with the River Cats-went 1-for-5, lowering his average to .240.
Reno and Sacramento meet up for game three of this four-game set on Sunday evening at 6:05 p.m. The Cats will send RHP Brad Peacock (5-2, 5.14 ERA) to the mound against Reno RHP Barry Enright (4-2, 4.41 ERA). Sunday's game is a U.S. Bank Sunday Funday, and is also Run, Bike, Swim Night presented by California Family Fitness, with a collapsible water bottle giveaway on tap for 2,500 fans.
