Sacramento River Cats News Release
West Sacramento, Calif. - Josh Donaldson's two-out, two-strike home run in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the River Cats a walk-off, 4-3 win over the Storm Chasers on Tuesday night at Raley Field.
Omaha took an early 3-0 lead in the third inning, but Sacramento kept chipping away at the lead, scoring one in the fourth, sixth and eighth, highlighted by a game-tying solo home run from Collin Cowgill.
The two teams entered the ninth inning tied at three. Andrew Carignan retired the Storm Chasers in order, giving the Cats the opportunity to win it in the bottom of the ninth. Grant Green led off the bottom of the frame with a single and advanced to scoring position on a bunt single from Brandon Hicks. However, Omaha reliever Brandon Sisk would retire the next three River Cats in order, ending the threat and sending the game into extra innings.
After Carignan pitched his second shutout inning of the contest, the Cats came to the plate with one more chance to send the River Cats faithful home happy. A Brandon Moss groundout was followed by a strikeout from Luke Hughes, bringing Donaldson to the plate with two out. With one ball and two strikes, Donaldson clubbed his fifth home run in 10 games, giving the River Cats the 4-3 walk off win.
Sacramento's starting pitcher Travis Banwart gave up three runs on eight hits with six strikeouts in five innings. Carignan gave up one hit in two shutout innings for the win.
Omaha starter Sean O'Sullivan gave up one run on four hits in four innings pitched. Sisk gave up two earned runs on five hits in 2.2 innings pitched, suffering the loss.
Donaldson finished 3-for-4 with a home run and an RBI and is now hitting .500 in 10 games with the Cats.
Game two of the series starts at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow for Ladies Night Out at Raley Field. Sacramento RHP Bruce Billings (2-1, 3.05 ERA) will oppose Storm Chasers LHP Ryan Verdugo (3-0, 2.87 ERA)
