Tucson Padres News Release

Luke Montz connected on a three-run home run with one out in the bottom of the 16th inning to give the New Orleans Zephyrs an 11-8 victory over the Tucson Padres Tuesday. New Orleans infielder Chase Lambin pitched a scoreless top of the 16th inning and was credited with the win. The Padres squandered multiple late scoring opportunities, leaving on eight runners in extra innings.

The Padres were one out away from a nine-inning loss when Yasmani Grandal hit a single to left field to score two runs. Neither team scored in extra innings until Montz' home run in the 16th. Tucson's James Darnell went 2-for-7 with two home runs. He also flied out to the warning track twice late in the game. Darnell's second home run hit the bottom of the scoreboard at Zephyr Field, a feat rarely seen at the 13-year-old ballpark. Matt Clark went 3-for-8 with a two-run home run, his third homer in the last four games.

Tuesday was the longest game in Tucson Padres team history; the 2011 T-Pads played two 15 inning games. The Padres game Wednesday is scheduled to start roughly eleven hours after Tuesday night's game ended.

Next Game: Wednesday, 11:30 am (9:30 am Tucson time) at New Orleans. Tucson RHP Jorge Reyes (1-5, 6.54) vs. New Orleans LHP Wade LeBlanc (1-2, 3.60). Game coverage begins at 9:15 am on Tejano 1600 AM.

Next Home Game: Thursday, May 17 vs. Nashville at 7:05 pm. Budweiser Thirsty Thursday.
