Tacoma Rainiers News Release

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers watched a late lead fall by the wayside in a 9-7 loss to the Albuquerque Isotopes at Cheney Stadium on Wednesday, stretching the club's season-high losing skid to six games.

Tacoma's lead was large as 6-3 through 6.0 innings before surrendering a pair of home runs to the Isotopes in the top of the seventh. Outfielder Jerry Sands brought Albuquerque within one run after hitting a two-run home run with no outs. Matt Angle gave the 'Topes the lead for good with another two-run homer one out later.

Carlos Triunfel led the Rainiers lineup with three hits and four RBI on Wednesday and has now hit safely in each of his last eight games. The shortstop hit his fifth home run of the season - a solo shot in the second - and added a two-RBI single that helped the Rainiers overcome a 3-2 Albuquerque lead in the fourth.

First baseman Luis Jimenez doubled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 10 games, the longest strung together by a Rainiers player this season.

As a team, the Rainiers combined to collect 14 hits in the contest. Catcher Brandon Bantz collected a season-high three hits and drove in a pair of runs. Carlos Peguero went 2-for-5 with a pair of singles in his first game back since being activated from the disabled earlier in the day.

Reliever Chance Ruffin was dealt his fourth loss of the season after surrendering three runs on eight hits over 2.0 innings of work in the seventh and eighth. Starter Forrest Snow surrendered five runs on six hits over 6.0 innings in his seventh turn in Tacoma's rotation this season.

The Rainiers (11-22) take the field for the third game of the club's four-game series with Albuquerque (21-13) on Thursday, May 10. Right-hander Jarrett Grube (0-1, 12.00) is slated to start for Tacoma in the contest against Isotopes right-hander John Ely (2-2, 4.64). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
