Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Las Vegas 51s (18-16) scored the game-tying run in the ninth and scratched across a run in the 10th to steal a 2-1 extra-innings victory from the Oklahoma City RedHawks (17-17) before a season-best 9,271 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark Wednesday afternoon.
The loss marked the seventh straight for the RedHawks, making it their longest losing streak since August, 2007.
The game was largely a pitcher's duel between Oklahoma City's Dallas Keuchel and Las Vegas' Scott Richmond. Both teams combined for just four hits through the first six-and-a-half innings.
Fernando Martinez broke the scoreless tie with his sixth home run of the season to make it 1-0 in the seventh.
After stranding runners at second and third in the eighth inning, the 51s pounced on a big miscue by the RedHawks in the ninth. With a runner at first and one out, RedHawks pitcher Xavier Cedeno committed a two-base error on a pickoff attempt to move Adeiny Hechavarria to third base. Travis Snider followed with a sac fly to tie the game.
The RedHawks committed two more errors in the 10th, and the go-ahead run scored on a fielder's choice to give the 51s their first lead.
Ryota Igarashi retired the RedHawks in order in the bottom of the inning to wrap-up Las Vegas' eighth straight win and earn his third save of the season.
The RedHawks were held to a season-low three hits, and put one runner in scoring position the entire game.
Dallas Keuchel had to settle for a tough no decision. The lefty tossed 7.1 scoreless innings to improve his season ERA to 1.85. Keuchel allowed just four hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
Richmond was just as good and allowed one run over seven innings, scattering three hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Jerry Gil (2-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Oklahoma City's Jose Valdez (0-1) allowed the go-ahead in the 10th and took the loss.
The RedHawks will have some time to rest before they battle the 51s Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. It's another $1 beer night at Chicksaw Bricktown Ballpark, and tickets are available through the RedHawks box office, by calling (405) 218-1000 or online at okcredhawks.com.
Live coverage of the game begins at 6:35 p.m. on 1340 AM The Game, 1340thegame.com, or through the IHeartRadio app on your mobile device.
