Sacramento Rallies to Sink Storm Chasers

Sacramento, CA - Josh Donaldson belted the game-winning home run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift Sacramento to a 4-3 come-from-behind win over Omaha Tuesday night in the opener of a four-game set at Raley Field. The Storm Chasers fell to 22-11 as their five-game win streak came to a halt in another dramatic ending, as six of their last 10 games have been decided in walk-off fashion.
Brandon Sisk retired the first two Sacramento hitters in the decisive frame before Donaldson, the reigning PCL Player of the Week, blasted a 1-2 offering over the wall in center field to send the Storm Chasers to a fourth defeat in their opponent's final at-bat in the last week and a half.
Derrick Robinson delivered a two-out, two-run double in the third inning to start the scoring and then crossed the plate when Johnny Giavotella followed with a base hit to complete a three-run surge against Sacramento starter Travis Banwart, who struck out six over five innings. From there, the River Cats bullpen blanked the visitors on only two hits over five innings and helped bring an end to David Lough's 17-game hitting streak.
The hosts got on the board in the fourth on a run-scoring ground out by Derek Norris against Sean O'Sullivan, who lasted four frames in a spot start after scheduled starter Vin Mazzaro was promoted to Kansas City earlier in the day. O'Sullivan permitted four hits, struck out one and did not walk a batter before giving way to Jeremy Jeffress.
After setting down the side in turn in the fifth, Jeffress yielded a run in the sixth but stranded runners at the corners when he got Norris to ground into an inning-ending double play. The right-hander retired Sacramento in order in the seventh and was replaced by Sisk after giving up a run on two hits while fanning three over three innings.
Collin Cowgill got the game knotted at three with a home run in the eighth and the River Cats put their first two hitters on board in the ninth before Sisk struck out the next two batters and induced a ground ball out to squash the rally and send the game into extra innings.
