Tacoma Rainiers News Release

TACOMA, Wash. - The Rainiers dropped their series opener against the Albuquerque Isotopes 4-2 at Cheney Stadium on Tuesday night, extending Tacoma's season-high losing skid to five games.

The Isotopes tallied all the offense needed to down the Rainiers with a three-run inning in the fourth. Luis Cruz scored a pair of runs with a one-out single, and Justin Sellers drove in one more in Albuquerque's next at-bat with a sacrifice fly. Scott Van Slyke rounded out the inning with an RBI-double.

Van Slyke added some additional run support with a run-scoring double that plated Josh Fields with two outs in the top of the fifth inning.

Catcher Guillermo Quiroz hit his fifth home run of the season - a two-run blast in the seventh inning - to provid the Rainiers only runs of the evening.

Luis Rodriguez's two hits led a Rainiers lineup that collected a combined nine hits on Tuesday night. Luis Jimenez singled in the fourth inning to extend his hitting streak to nine games, now the longest streak put together by a Rainiers player this season.

Starter Jeff Marquez was dealt his third loss this season after surrendering all four of the 'Topes runs on five hits over 5.0 innings of work.

Relievers Sean Henn, Stephen Pryor and Scott Patterson combined to toss 4.0 innings out of the bullpen. The right-hander Pryor struck out two batters and retired the side in the eighth inning in his Triple-A debut.

The Rainiers (11-21) take the field for the second game of their four-game series with the Isotopes (20-13) at 11:35 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9. Right-hander Forrest Snow (0-3, 7.58) is slated to take the mound in the contest against right-hander Stephen Fife (3-2, 5.52) for Albuquerque.
