Broncos Take Nine at 2012 WHL Bantam Draft

Swift Current, SK - The Swift Current Broncos selected nine players at the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft (five forwards, three defencemen and one goaltender).

"We went into this draft with several key areas we were hoping to fill and we were fortunate enough to select many of the guys we had liked over the past season." States Bronco Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Personnel, Jamie Porter.

Centerman Glenn Gawdin was selected 5th overall in the draft. The 6'1", 170lbs. Richmond, BC product led the Seafair Islanders (PCBHL) in scoring with 58 goals and 32 assists in 43 games played.

"He is a good sized right handed shot," states Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Personnel, Jamie Porter. "He skates well, we really like his skill level and compete level and we think he will develop into an impact player for our organization."

Travis Child was selected 29th overall in the draft. The 6', 168lbs. goaltender from Killam, AB played 1,111 minutes with the Camrose Vikings (AMBHL) last season where he posted a 7-8-4 record, a .910 save percentage and a 3.46 GAA.

"He was the goalie at the top of our list heading into the draft," says Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Personnel, Jamie Porter. "We wanted to be really aggressive in getting a goaltender this year. We have watched him over the past few years and have really liked how he has progressed. He has all the qualities to be a potential game-breaker for us down the line."

Defenceman Domenic Masellis was taken 51st overall in the draft. The 6', 212lbs. Burnaby, BC native played the 2011-12 season with the Burnaby Winter Club Bruins of the PCBHL.

Left winger Wyatt Sloboshan was selected 54th overall in the draft. In 25 games played with the Saskatoon Bantam AA Maniacs, the 5'9", 150lbs. Saskatoon, SK product recorded 17 goals, 22 assists and 26 PIM.

Centerman Jackson Keane was selected 73rd overall in the draft. The 5'6", 125lbs. Winnipeg, MB product recorded 51 points (26G, 25A) in 30 games played with the Winnipeg Monarchs of the Winnipeg AAA Bantam Hockey League.

Defenceman Maxime Lajoie was selected 95th overall in the draft. The 5'10", 152lbs. Calgary, AB product tallied three goals, nine assists and 18PIM in 33 games played with the Calgary Royals of the AMBHL last season.

Right winger Brandan Arnold was selected 139th overall in the draft. The 5'7", 123lbs. Dodsland, SK product tallied 62 points (25G, 37A) and 54 PIM in 24 games played with the West Central Wheat Kings of the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League last season.

Left winger Ryan Rottenburger was selected 183rd overall in the draft. The 6', 167 lbs. product of Radisson, SK recorded 23 goals and 12 assists in 24 games played with the Sask Valley Vipers of the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League last season.

Defenceman Kruz Listmayer was selected 227th overall in the draft. The 6', 210 lbs. product of Winnipeg, MB scored a goal and five assists while recording 50 PIM in 22 games played with the Winnipeg Hawks of the Winnipeg AAA Bantam Hockey League.
