Prince Albert Raiders News Release

Prince Albert SK - The Prince Albert Raiders have selected six more players at the 2012 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft today in Calgary, Alberta.

The Raiders selected Saskatoon native Connor Hobbs with their 4th pick, 67th overall. The 5'11 defenceman put up 18 points in 19 games with the Saskatoon Bandits this season and was named First Team All-Star in the Greater Saskatoon Hockey League Bantam AA Tournament.

"It was good to get a local Saskatchewan guy. He is a solid defensive defenceman with some offensive upside. He has a great stick, makes a good first past and plays with a physical edge," said Raiders Director of Player Personnel Dale Derkatch.

With their 89th overall choice, in the 5th round, the Raiders drafted defenceman Jordan Boulton of the Sherwood Park Bantam AAA Flyers. The blueliner, who stands 6'0" and 168 pounds, recorded 9 points in 32 games, while collecting 18 penalty minutes.

"Jordan is a good skater with size. He makes a good first pass and is very good in his own zone," said Derkatch.

Sitting in the 99th position, the team selected 5'11", 159-pound centre Dylan Stewart of the Edmonton Canadian Athletic Club. Stewart led his team in goals, with 33 in just 32 games, and added 17 assist for 50 points this season.

Stewart is described as "a hard working, smart and captain type player," by Dale Derkatch. "He plays hard and isn't afraid of going into the dirty areas."

Opening the 6th round of the draft, the Raiders took left-winger Dallas Miller, a 6'0, 170-pound Winnipeg product 111th overall.

"Dallas has played a lot as an underage player in minor hockey, consistently playing against players older than him. He is a big strong power forward, good skater and can be a very good second line player in the future."

The Raiders drafted defenceman Marshall Burr from Airdrie Xtreme Bantam AAA in the 8th round, 155th overall. 6'1", 170-pound rearguard registered 13 points to go with 76 penalty minutes in 27 games in the 2011-2012 season.

"A big, steady and rugged stay at home defenceman. Marshall is a good skater with a physical presence on the ice," said Derkatch.

In the 9th round, the Raiders drafted Choiceland, Saskatchewan's Caleb Seaman. Playing for the North East Wolfpack this season, the 6'0, 160 pound forward scored 13 goals and added 9 helpers for 22 points in just 19 games played in the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League.
