Vancouver Giants News Release

After selecting Ty Ronning in the First Round of the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft, the Vancouver Giants Hockey Club was set to make three Second Round selections, but the trade winds began to blow.

The Giants were to select at 37th, 40th and 42nd overall. The 37th pick was their own, while the 40th pick was acquired from the Moose Jaw Warriors in the James Henry deal (2011/12) and the 42nd pick was acquired from the Portland Winterhawks in the Craig Cunningham deal (2010/11).

With the 37th pick, the Giants selected Jakob Stukel from Surrey, BC. The left winger is a product of Cloverdale Minor Hockey, and tallied 26 goals and 27 assists in 20 games last season. He's listed at 5'9" and 150 lbs, born March 6, 1997.

They then traded the 40th pick to the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for their 44th overall pick and a 6th round pick, both coming later in today's draft. They then traded the 44th pick to the Kamloops Blazers for their 2nd Round pick in 2013 and a 4th Round selection later today.

With the 42nd pick, the Giants selected Jesse Roach from Quesnel, BC. The right winger is 6'3", 160 lbs, born March 9, 1997.

"What we've done is moved one of our second rounders from this season to next, while gaining a 4th and 6th round pick later today", says Giants Executive VP and General Manager, Scott Bonner. "We had four second-rounders last season, so these trades allow us to spread our high-end picks a little better through our depth chart, ensuring a consistent pipeline of talent for the next few years."
