Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
PAPILLION, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers closed out the season's first homestand in style on Thursday as they defeated the Round Rock Express, 5-4. Thursday's triumph was Omaha's sixth win in a row and pushes their record to an impressive 7-1.
Starter Nathan Adcock (2-0) earned his second win of the season after tossing six innings of scoreless ball. Tommy Hottovy's one-run ninth inning netted him his first save of 2012. Offensively, the Storm Chasers were paced by Tony Abreu's 3-for-4 performance along with his two RBI. In the season's first eight contests, Abreu's bat has been key to Omaha's offensive effort, as seen by his blistering .472 batting average.
No runs were scored in Thursday's contest until the third inning when Irving Falu grounded into a fielder's choice to score Anthony Seratelli. The Storm Chasers begin to heat up in the fifth as a Cody Clark single was followed by a Derrick Robinson single. Falu then grounded up the middle to score Clark. Omaha extended their lead to 4-0 when Abreu doubled to left to bring in Robinson and Falu. The Chasers scored their final run of the game in the sixth thanks to back-to-back doubles by Seratelli and Jamie Romak to grab a 5-0 advantage.
Round Rock (2-6) attempted to claw their way back into the game and tallied two runs in the seventh and one run in the eighth off of reliever Ethan Hollingsworth. Manager Mike Jirschele then summoned Hottovy from the "Ëpen to shut the game down for Omaha. Hottovy did yield one unearned run but was able to halt the Express rally and get Round Rock's right fielder, Joey Butler, to ground into a double-play to end the game.
The Storm Chasers will now hit the road for four games against Albuquerque and four against Round Rock. Friday's game against Albuquerque will start at 8:05 p.m. and can be heard locally on KOIL-1180 AM. Omaha will return to Werner Park on Saturday, April 21 to begin a four-game homestand against the Nashville Sounds.
