Tonight's Game-- The RedHawks will try and bounce back after losing for the first time in their last six games. They'll aim for a series win over Nashville as Dallas Keuchel takes the mound. Tonight is also $1 beer night.
Last Night-- The Sounds scored the tying run in the ninth on a Hainley Statia sacrifice fly before a 10th inning home run by Martin Maldonado sent Nashville to a 7-6 win over the RedHawks. Nashville reliever Mike McClendon (1-0) blew a save by giving up the tying run in the eighth inning, but earned a win after Nashville rallied. Juan Abreu (0-1) allowed the tying run in the ninth inning for a blown save and the game-winning home run in the tenth inning for the loss. The RedHawks took control with an early 3-0 lead before the Sounds tied the game in the fifth.
Nashville went ahead 5-4 in the seventh before the RedHawks scored two in the eighth to take a 6-5 lead, but could not hold on for the win.
Tonight's Probable Pitchers-- Tulsa native Dallas Keuchel looks to follow up a spectacular season debut...In six innings against Memphis last Saturday, Keuchel held the Redbirds scoreless and allowed just two hits...12 of his 18 outs were groundouts and he retired the final 11 batters he faced...The lefty is now 2-0 with a 1.04 ERA in four career starts in Bricktown...Nashville starter Josh Butler will try to rebound after a bumpy season debut in New Orleans...Butler took the loss in the Sounds' 4-2 loss last Saturday...He lasted just 3.1 innings allowing three runs and although he only gave up one hit, it was a home run, and he also walked six.
A Night of Firsts-- In the RedHawks' first extra-inning game of the season, the team had a series of firsts, some good and some bad. Scott Moore became the first RedHawk to record four hits in a game. However, it was also the first time the team committed more than one error, an opposing player stole a base, a reliever allowed an inherited runner to score, and the team blew a save. Last night also marked the first time Nashville scored more than two runs in a game. The Sounds almost equaled their previous season run total of nine after last night's seven-run outburst. With 16 hits, Nashville raised its team average from .182 to .217.
Balanced Attack-- Although the RedHawks rank fourth in the league with 43 runs, no individual ranks among the top five in any major offensive category. They have relied on timely hitting rather than home runs, as they are tied for the least homers in the PCL with three. They are hitting .333 as a team with runners in scoring position (T-4th in PCL) and a blistering .429 with runners in scoring position and 2 outs (2nd in PCL).
More Moore, Please-- Scott Moore's four-hit night raised his sesaon average to .571 (8-for-14). Even though he
has appeared in all seven games, he's only started three times. When Moore is in the starting lineup, he is 8-for-11 and has recorded a multi-hit game each time. Moore would lead the league in average if he had enough plate appearances to qualify. The minimum as of today is 18.9. Moore has 18.
Fantastic Fernando-- RedHawks outfielder Fernando Martinez is off to a great start, and he is just one of seven players in the PCL to hit safely in the first seven games of the season. He leads the team in hits (10) and RBIs (7), and he is tied for the team lead with four extra-base hits. Along with Brett Wallace, Martinez is only player to start every game for the RedHawks.
Hail Hessman-- RedHawks first baseman Mike Hessman is the active leader in career minor league home runs. His 330 blasts is almost 100 more than Val Pascucci of Buffalo, who is second on the list with 235. Toledo's Brad Eldred ranks third with 229. Combined with his homers from the Majors and Japan, Hessman has a total of 350 career home runs since beginning his professional career in 1996.
Against the Sounds-- The RedHawks went 9-7 against the Sounds in 2011, despite being outhit and outscored by Nashville...The RedHawks pitching staff fanned 138 batters in 138 innings...Collin DeLome was one of the team's offensive leaders, hitting .448 (13x29) with two homers, six RBI, and a .538 on-base percentage in 12 games...The RedHawks were 6-2 against the Sounds in Bricktown, including a series sweep May 2-5...These two teams will meet 16 times in 2012, with the Sounds' next trip to OKC coming May 29-June 1.
Welcome to Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark-- Officials with the Oklahoma City RedHawks and the Chickasaw Nation announced Thursday, April 5 they had decided to rename the stadium Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The RedHawks and the Chickasaw Nation believe the new name meets the objectives of the partnership and is respectful to the wishes of Oklahoma City citizens and passionate RedHawks fans. The agreement still includes branding elements for Newcastle Casino, Chickasaw Country and the Chickasaw Nation, consumer promotions, hospitality at stadium events and opportunities to use the ballpark for Chickasaw Nation and Newcastle Casino programs.
RedHawks Radio-- For the second consecutive season, the Oklahoma City RedHawks and Clear Channel Radio of Oklahoma City will broadcast all 144 RedHawks games on AM 1340 The Game...Each game will be carried live and all broadcasts will start 30 minutes before the first pitch with "RedHawks On-Deck"...
