Tucson Padres News Release

The Tucson Padres led Sacramento by one run with two outs and two strikes in the ninth inning Wednesday when Adam Rosales hit a two-run single to put the River Cats in front. The Padres went down quietly in the bottom of the ninth and lost the game, 3-2. The defeat spoiled a great outing by Casey Kelly, who pitched six shutout innings and struck out nine River Cats without issuing a walk.

Tucson got on the scoreboard first with an RBI single by Vince Belnome in the fourth inning and added a second run when Matt Clark drove home Blake Tekotte in the fifth. Rosales drove home all three River Cats runs; his single in the seventh plated Sacramento's first run.

The Padres have now lost five straight games after their first win of the season Friday vs. Fresno and their record is 1-6. Sacramento moves to 6-1, in first place in the Southern Division. Kelly's nine strikeouts were a season high for a Tucson pitcher.

Next Game: Tomorrow, 7:05 pm - Sacramento RHP Tyson Ross (0-0, 2.25) vs. Tucson RHP Josh Geer (0-1, 6.75). Budweiser Thirsty Thursday, discount beverages until 9:00 pm. Radio broadcast begins at 6:50 pm on Tejano 1600 AM.
