Salt Lake Tops Aces, 11-3

RENO, Nev.-Jake Elmore continued his hot stretch at the plate with two more hits, but the Reno Aces dropped an 11-3 decision to the Salt Lake Bees Wednesday night at Aces Ballpark.

Salt Lake pushed a run across in the first, and though the Aces would tie the score in the third, the Bees went back ahead for good in the fourth. The loss is Reno's fifth-straight since starting the season 2-0.

Aces starter Chris Jakubauskas (1-1) took the loss, surrendering six runs on eight hits over 4.2 innings of work. Jakubauskas struck out four and walked two. After his exit, Bryan Woodall worked 1.1 scoreless innings, Daniel Stange allowed four runs in 0.2 frames, Sam Demel didn't allow a run in 1.1 innings, and Jensen Lewis allowed a run in his lone inning of work.

The win went to Bees starter Matt Shoemaker (1-0), who scattered two runs on six hits over 5.1 innings. Three Salt Lake relievers combined to hold the Aces to a run over the game's final 3.2 frames.

At the plate for Reno, Elmore singled and doubled, pushing his average to .381. Cody Ransom and Ryan Wheeler each drove in a run for the Aces, and Cole Gillespie chipped-in two hits and a run scored.

The series comes to a close Thursday night at Aces Ballpark. RHP Joe Martinez (0-0, 2.57 ERA) toes the slab for Reno, while Salt Lake will counter with RHP Eric Hurley (0-1, 20.25 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. PT, and prior to the game Aces outfielder Cole Gillespie will be presented his 2011 Rawlings Gold Glove Award in an on-field ceremony featuring Minor League Baseball President Pat O'Conner.
