Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers fell behind early and never caught up in a 14-5 loss to the Reno Aces in front of 5,386 fans at Cheney Stadium on Saturday night.
The Rainiers trouble started in the first inning with Cody Ransom's three-run home run that gave the Aces a quick 3-0 lead.
Tacoma's Ryan Langerhans hit a first-inning lead-off home run, his third over his last seven games, that put the Rainiers within a pair of runs before Reno scored twice in the second off Mark Hallberg's one-out, two-run blast.
Reno, the top ranked offense in the PCL, struck again with six runs on 10 hits over the fourth through the sixth innings. Lucas May and Collin Cowgill each drove in a pair of runs with Hallberg and Abreu accounting for one run each.
The Rainiers attempted to keep things close with four runs in the sixth. Matt Tuiasosopo hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly and Luis Jimenez hit a two-out, three-run home run to cut Tacoma's deficit down to 11-6, but Brandon Allen widened the gap for Reno again with a three-run homer in the sixth.
Langerhans tied a season high with four hits against the Aces on Saturday and has now hit safely in each of his last 22 games. The hit streak ties Mike Carp's as the longest strung together by a Rainier this season and is four shy of tying the Tacoma record of 26 games previously set by Chad Akers (1999) and Rex Johnston (1965).
Reno's Armando Galarraga (1-2) turned in a five-inning start, allowing one run on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts to collect the win. Rainiers starter Jarrett Grube (0-2) was dealt the loss after surrendering eight runs on eight hits over 3.2 innings with one walk and three strikeouts.
The Rainiers (44-46) look to even the series in the final game of their four-game set with the Aces (52-36) scheduled to begin at 1:35 p.m. on Sunday. Left-hander Anthony Vasquez (1-0, 7.11) is slated to take the mound for Tacoma against Reno left-hander Wade Miley (1-0, 2.57). The game will be broadcast live on South Sound Sports 850-AM and can be streamed online at www.tacomarainiers.com.
