Gindl Cycles in Nashville's 9-5 Win in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Caleb Gindl hit for the cycle while Taylor Green hit a grand slam in a Nashville Sounds' 9-5 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes in the finale of a four-game series on Sunday night at Isotopes Park.

Gindl became the third and most recent Sound to accomplish the feat in the team's 34-year history. The right fielder ripped a triple in the second, homered in the third, doubled in the eighth, and completed the feat with a single in the ninth. Gindl went 4-for-5 with three runs scored to join J.R. House (2004) and Tike Redman (2001) as the only players to hit for the cycle in a Sounds uniform.

The victory gave Nashville (41-49) a 2-2 series split with Albuquerque. The two teams will resume their season series on Thursday at Greer Stadium in Nashville, which the Isotopes currently lead, 7-4.

Josh Butler (5-5) surrendered one run on five hits while fanning four in five innings to earn the win. In his last three starts, Butler has recorded a 2.41 ERA (5er/18.2ip) while striking out 20.

Brett Carroll gave the Sounds a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. With two outs in the frame, Carroll belted his 15th homer off Isotopes starter Ian Snell over the wall in left field, his second consecutive game with a homer.

The Sounds tacked on another run in the second inning as Gindl smacked a two-out triple to center field and scored on the ensuing Edwin Maysonet single.

Nashville opened up the game with a 6-0 lead in the third. After Snell issued three consecutive walks to open the frame, Green smacked a 0-1 pitch for a grand slam to remove Snell from the contest. The long ball was Green's 13th, who has hit both of Nashville's grand slams this season, recording the other on June 5 at New Orleans.

Later in the inning after coming in to the game to relieve Snell, Ramon Troncoso offered up Gindl's 12th home run of the year that made it 7-0.

Ivan De Jesus Jr. put Albuquerque on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo homer to center, his first of the season.

The Sounds added two insurance runs in the eighth for a 9-1 advantage. Gindl doubled to left field and scored as pinch hitter Jordan Brown hit an infield single. Eric Farris got in on the action with a single to first base that scored Brown, who previously advanced to second on a throwing error.

The Isotopes got two more in the bottom of the eighth. Two straight doubles by Jay Gibbons and Jamie Hoffman accounted for the first run, while Damaso Espino hit an RBI single.

Albuquerque scored two more runs to come within four runs at 9-5 in the ninth. Dee Gordon tripled and scored on a single from De Jesus Jr., who later scored while Gibbons grounded into a double play.

Reliever Zack Segovia contributed two scoreless innings. Justin James and Sean Green each allowed two runs in one inning a piece.

Snell (1-2) was tagged for six runs on five hits and four walks in two plus innings for the loss.

After taking the next three days off for the Triple-A All-Star break, the Sounds return to action on Thursday night at Greer Stadium, when they welcome the Albuquerque Isotopes (AAA-Dodgers) to Music City for a 6:05 p.m. scheduled doubleheader consisting of two, seven-inning contests.

Right-hander Frankie De La Cruz (3-5, 4.33) will man the bump for the Sounds in Thursday's series opener to face Albuquerque right-hander Joe Newby (1-2, 4.35).

Left-hander Sam Narron will be the Sounds' lone participant in the 2011 Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was selected to the team as a reserve by the PCL office and is expected to throw one inning of relief in the contest. Right-hander Mark DiFelice was also selected to the All-Star team, but will miss the game due to his current stint on the disabled list. The Triple-A All-Star Game takes place at 8:05 p.m. CT on Wednesday night and will air on MLB Network as well as 104.5-FM "The Zone.
