TACOMA, Wash.- Cody Ransom inched toward the precipice of a pair of franchise records, and Armando Galarraga dealt his best start in an Aces uniform Saturday night, as the Reno Aces ran past the Tacoma Rainiers, 14-5, at Cheney Stadium.
The Aces jumped ahead early, scored in five of the game's first six innings and were never seriously threatened, putting themselves in position for a series victory on Sunday.
Galarraga (1-2) collected his first win for Reno since being outrighted by the Arizona Diamondbacks, scattering a run on five hits over five frames. The right-hander walked two and struck out four in an 87-pitch effort.
Ransom put Reno on the scoreboard early with a first-inning, three-run home run. With 24 homers on the season, Ransom now sits one home run shy of matching an Aces single-season franchise record. With a league-leading 85 runs driven in on the season, the shortstop is just one RBI shy of setting another Aces single-season franchise mark.
In addition to Ransom's exploits at the dish, Mark Hallberg and Brandon Allen each homered and finished with three hits for a Reno club that recorded 16 hits on the night.
The loss fell to Rainiers starter Jarrett Grube (0-2), who surrendered eight runs on eight hits over 3.2 innings of work.
The Aces and Rainiers complete the series and finish the season's unofficial first half on Sunday afternoon. LHP Wade Miley (1-0, 2.57 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Tacoma will counter with LHP Anthony Vasquez (1-0, 7.11 ERA).
