Mike Jacobs started the nine-run explosion with a two-run single followed by a Willy Taveras two-run single and an Alfredo Amezaga RBI single to give the Sox a 5-1 lead after one inning. In the second, Joe Mather started the scoring with a solo home run, his second in five games since joining the Sox. Amezaga followed with a two-run double and Warren Schaeffer capped the scoring with an RBI single.
