Sky Sox take third straight from Bees 11-6

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox won their third-straight game against the Salt Lake Bees 11-6 Saturday night in front of 7,534 fans at Security Service Field.

After Paul McAnulty gave the Bees a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI double, the Sox pounced on Salt Lake starter Ryan Ketchner for five runs in the first and four in the second inning to take a commanding 9-1 lead. Mike Jacobs started the nine-run explosion with a two-run single followed by a Willy Taveras two-run single and an Alfredo Amezaga RBI single to give the Sox a 5-1 lead after one inning. In the second, Joe Mather started the scoring with a solo home run, his second in five games since joining the Sox. Amezaga followed with a two-run double and Warren Schaeffer capped the scoring with an RBI single.

Edgar Gonzalez (2-3, 5.87) held the Bees in check for most of the night, allowing four runs on seven hits in 6.2 innings in winning his second-straight start. Ketchner (4-5, 5.32) picked up the loss allowing nine runs on 11 hits in just 1.2 innings.

The Sox recent additions were vital to the win as Schaeffer finished 3-for-4 while Mather finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored.

With the win, the Sox improve to 40-49 while Salt Lake falls to 39-51. The Sox will look to sweep their final series before the All-Star Break tomorrow afternoon as Billy Buckner (1-4, 6.09) takes the mound against Eric Junge (5-6, 4.94). First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM MT.
