Reno Aces News Release
TACOMA, Wash.- Reno scored four runs in the seventh inning-highlighted by a three-run double by David Winfree-to roll to a come-from-behind 6-2 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers Sunday at Cheney Stadium.
With the win, the Aces go to the Triple-A All-Star Break with a 10-game division lead-sitting a franchise record 17 games over .500. Reno has set a franchise record for wins before the break at 53.
Reno trailed 2-0 until the seventh, when Geoff Blum-playing on a Major League rehabilitation assignment-put the Aces on the scoreboard for the first time with a run-scoring single. Two batters later, Winfree slapped a bases-loaded double down the left-field line to give Reno its first lead of the game, 4-2. The Aces added insurance runs in the eighth and ninth to seal the series victory.
Wade Miley (2-0) earned the victory, scattering two runs on six hits over 7.0 innings of work-marking his second-straight quality start in as many career Triple-A appearances. Out of the Aces bullpen, Daniel Stange worked a scoreless eighth and Bryan Shaw slammed the door with a perfect ninth.
The loss fell to Tacoma starter Anthony Vasquez (1-1), who allowed three runs-two earned-on six hits over 6.1 innings of work.
At the plate for Reno, Blum finished with three hits, a run scored and an RBI. Brandon Allen singled and doubled in a 10-hit Aces effort.
The Aces now go on a three-day hiatus for the Triple-A All-Star Break. In Wednesday's Triple-A All-Star Game in Salt Lake City, Tony Abreu, Collin Cowgill, Cody Ransom and Konrad Schmidt will represent Reno for the Pacific Coast League squad. The game can be seen live on the MLB Network at 6 p.m. PT.
After the break, the first-place Aces return home Thursday, July 14 for an eight-game homestand with Colorado Springs and Fresno. Tickets are available at RenoAces.com, the Aces Ballpark box office or by phone at (775) 334-7000. Discounted group tickets for your next event are available today.
