Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

Alfredo Amezaga scored Willy Taveras with an RBI single as the Sky Sox walked off with an 8-7 victory and a sweep of the Salt Lake Bees Sunday afternoon in front of 3,834 fans at Security Service Field.

The Sox lead 7-5 coming into the ninth as All-Star Jim Miller relieved looking for his 14th save of the season. However, Miller was unable to close it out as he allowed RBI singles to Efren Navarro and Kevin Melillo to tie the game at seven apiece.

With one out in the Sox half of the ninth, Willy Taveras reached on an infield single and stole second, setting the stage for Amezaga's heroics.

The Sox took a 3-0 lead in the third on a three-run home run by Dexter Fowler, his second of the series. The Bees would close the gap in the fifth as an Eric Young Jr. error paved the way for two Salt Lake runs.

In the sixth, an RBI double by Mike Jacobs and a three-run home run by Mike Paulk gave the Sox a 7-2 lead. The Sox were unable to hold the lead as three-runs in the eighth brought the Bees to within two runs at 7-5, preceding the events in the ninth.

Miller (5-4, 6.12) picked up the win despite blowing his fourth save of the season as the Sox improved to 41-49 heading into the All-Star break. Kevin Jepsen (1-2, 3.90) took the loss for Salt Lake allowing a run on four hits in 1.1 innings.

The Sox return to action on July 14th against the Reno Aces. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 PM MT.
