Beloit takes two from TinCaps

BELOIT, Wisc. - The Beloit Snappers outscored the TinCaps, 11-8, in the completion of a suspended game before blanking Fort Wayne, 3-0, in Game 2. Rymer Liriano homered among five hits in the first game.

After pounding out a season-high 20 hits in Game 1, the TinCaps were held to just two hits in the nightcap.

When the game resumed, Fort Wayne trailed 6-5 in the fifth inning. Wes Cunningham smacked a double to put runners at second and third with one out. Tyler Stubblefield followed by reaching on an RBI infield single to tie the game, then Chris Bisson came up with a two-out RBI single to give the TinCaps a 7-6 lead.

In the seventh, Beloit tied it on a single by Michael Gonzales. Liriano drilled a solo homer in the eighth inning to give Fort Wayne an 8-7 advantage. It made Liriano the first Fort Wayne hitter to notch five hits in a game since Cedric Hunter in August of 2007. The Snappers tied the game in the eighth on Lance Ray's RBI single, then Wang-Wei Lin hit a three-run homer to right to put Beloit ahead, 11-8.

Snappers LHP Jose Gonzalez (3-1) picked up the win while Fort Wayne RHP Yefri Carvajal (1-3) took the loss.

In Game 2, Beloit's Andrew Leer roped a two-run double, then Nate Roberts hit an RBI single to give the Snappers a 3-0 lead in the third inning.

Meanwhile, Snappers LHP Ryan O'Rourke retired the first ten TinCaps hitters he faced. He gave way to RHP Michael Tonkin (2-1), who delivered 2.1 scoreless innings to pick up the win. LHP Clinton Dempster notched his fourth save. Fort Wayne RHP Matt Jackson (3-1) took the loss.

The TinCaps dipped to 26-33 with the losses; Beloit got back to .500 at 30-30.

The TinCaps head north to take on the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Class-A Milwaukee Brewers) in a three-game series beginning Friday at 8:05 p.m. ET. RHP Adys Portillo (1-6) gets the nod against Wisconsin RHP Brooks Hall (2-0).
