Portland Sea Dogs News Release
Portland, Maine- Michael Lee shutout the Trenton Thunder for 6.2 innings but the Thunder rallied for five runs over the last three innings to defeat the Portland Sea Dogs 5-2 before the second consecutive sellout crowd of 7,368 at Hadlock Field on Sunday afternoon. Trenton improves to 30-19, while the Sea Dogs fall to 14-33.
Chih Hsien Chiang launched his sixth home run of the season in the second inning. It was the second consecutive day that Chiang has circled the bases. After Oscar Tejeda singled, Jon Hee ripped a double to score Tejeda giving the Sea Dogs a 2-0 lead after two innings.
Portland starter Michael Lee had his longest outing of the season shutting out Trenton through 6.2 innings. Lee held the Thunder to only three hits. He walked two and struck out four in one of his finest outings of the season.
Cesar Cabral relieved Lee, who was in-line for the win, with two outs in the seventh. After Bradley Suttle singled and advanced to second on a Will Middlebrooks throwing error, Cody Johnson launched a two run homer, his eighth of the year to tie the game at two, resulting in a no-decision for Lee.
Austin Romine delivered an RBI single off Cabral to give the Thunder a 3-2 lead. Jose Gil followed with a two run double to provide a couple of insurance runs as the Yankees affiliate extended the lead to 5-2.
Cabral (0-3) suffered the loss tossing 1.1 innings allowing five runs on six hits. Trenton starter Shaeffer Hall (4-3) earns the win throwing seven strong innings allowing just the two runs in the second inning, scattering eights. He did not walk a batter and struck out four.
Tim Norton earned his fourth save of the year pitching two no-hit innings to close out the game for the Thunder.
Alex Hassan singled in the third to extend his consecutive game on-base streak to 16 games.
The two clubs will conclude the five game series on Monday (Memorial Day) with a 1:00 PM contest at Hadlock Field. Sea Dogs' righty Alex Wilson (4-3, 2.85) looks for his fifth win of the year. He will be opposed by Trenton right-hander Dellin Betances (3-1, 1.30). The Sea Dogs will open the gates at 10:00 AM to allow fans to play catch on the field until 11:15 AM.
