AKRON, OH - Akron Aeros fans once again made significant contributions to a United States city dealing with the aftermath of devastating tornados. Joplin, MO which is also the hometown of Aeros infielder Matt Lawson, is the beneficiary of last night's camouflage jersey auction proceeds.

More than $2,000 was raised on Saturday night through the auction of commemorative camouflage jerseys worn by the entire team in conjunction with a Military Appreciation Night at Canal Park. Throughout the game, fans bid on their favorite Aeros game-worn jerseys, with the winners having the opportunity to meet the player, and receive his autographed jersey following the game.

Joplin, MO, a city of about 50,000 people about 160 miles south of Kansas City, was recently affected by storms bringing deadly tornados. At least 24 people were killed in Joplin, with homes, churches, and the local hospital suffering storm damage.

"Aeros fans once again showed heart-warming generosity in support of those in need. The Aeros would like to thank those fans who bid on our commemorative camouflage jerseys, and more importantly, helped raise funds for those hard-hit by the recent storms affecting the Midwest," Aeros Chief Operating Officer JIM PFANDER said.
