Gil Homers in 5-2 Loss

Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder (11-14) lost 5-2 to the Portland Sea Dogs (9-13) Tuesday afternoon at Waterfront Park. Bradley Suttle had an RBI double and Jose Gil hit a solo homerun for the Thunder, who lost for just the fourth time in 12 home games so far in 2011.
Trailing 3-0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, the Thunder would try to answer back for the first time in the game. Dan Brewer singled with one out, and one batter later Bradley Suttle laced a double to the left-centerfield gap to score Brewer and cut the Sea Dog lead to 3-1.
Leading off the next inning, the newest member of the Thunder, catcher Jose Gil, lined a solo homerun to left field to bring Trenton just one run from Portland at 3-2.
That would be all of the offense for the Thunder, though, as the Sea Dogs' pitching staff limited the Thunder to just five hits.
The Thunder bullpen pitched well Tuesday in an unenviable situation as starter Steve Garrison left the game for an undisclosed reason after a first inning where he allowed two unearned runs. From the second inning through the eighth, Thunder relievers Cory Arbiso, Kei Igawa and Wilkins Arias combined to hurl seven innings of one-run ball, surrendering just four hits.
The Trenton Thunder continue their seven-game homestand Wednesday for a 7:05 PM contest with the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox). The Thunder will give the pearl to RHP Dellin Betances (0-1, 1.13). The righty from Brooklyn will oppose RHP Stolmy Pimentel (0-3, 6.75) for the Sea Dogs. The SBLI Pre-Game Show with Jay Burnham and Hank Fuerst begins at 6:45 PM. Tune-in to the game on 91.3 WTSR-FM and on trentonthunder.com.
Wednesday night will be another NJEA Most Improved Student Night at Waterfront Park, where local students will be rewarded for their excellence in the classroom. Call the Thunder Box Office at 609-394-3300 or log on to trentonthunder.com to reserve your seats today.
