New Britain Rock Cats News Release
NEW BRITAIN, CT - Bobby Lanigan hurled seven impressive innings and reliever Cole DeVries kept his scoreless innings streak in tact to lead the Rock Cats to a 4-2 win over Richmond on Tuesday night.
Lanigan (2-2) struck out six while limiting Richmond to two runs on five hits through seven innings.
The Flying Squirrels got on the board first courtesy of an RBI single by Jose Flores that knocked in Mike McBryde, who had led off the third inning with a double.
In the bottom of the inning, the Rock Cats answered back to even the score. Daniel Rohlfing and Chris Cates delivered back-to-back singles to open the inning. With Mike Holliman at bat with three balls, Fitzgerald unleashed a wild pitch that allowed Holliman to reach first on a walk and scored Rohlfing form third.
The Rock Cats struck again in the fourth inning. Chris Parmelee and Evan Bigley hit consecutive innings to start the inning. The hot-hitting Yangervis Solarte lined a single to center to score Parmelee for the go-ahead run. Bigley was thrown out at third on the throw. Ray Chang added an RBI double for the 3-1 lead.
Solarte added an RBI single that scored Bigley - who had reached on a double - in the sixth inning. Bigley finished the night with a game-high three hits. Solarte went 2-for-4 with a stolen base.
DeVries came on in the eighth and fired two hitless innings of shutout relief to notch his team-best fifth save. He has not allowed an earned run in 16.2 innings of work this season.
Fitzgerald (2-1) allowed four runs on nine hits and three walks in five innings.
ALLSTATE PLAYER OF THE GAME: RHP Bobby Lanigan walked none while striking out six in seven innings of work. He allowed just two runs on five hits.
