Drive Come Up Short Again Versus RiverDogs, 5-3
April 21, 2011 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Greenville Drive News Release
Charleston, SC - It took the Drive (8-7) a little longer than the hour-and-fifteen-minute rain delay to get going during their game three match-up with the Charleston RiverDogs (8-7) at Riley Park. By the time Greenville plated their first runs, it wound up being too late as the RiverDogs came away with a 5-3 victory Thursday night.
Greenville hurler Miguel Celestino (0-1) retired the first six batters he faced, but then Charleston's offense came alive in the bottom of the third. Three singles, including a run-scoring base hit from Slade Heathcott, broke the scoreless tie.
An inning later, the RiverDogs took gained a four-run advantage off the right-hander as Rob Segedin and Kelvin DeLeon tallied an RBI-triple and double, respectively. Kelvin Castro added an RBI-single in what would be Celestino's final frame.
But the Drive cut their deficit in half in the top of the fifth with a two-run homer off the bat of Sean Coyle. The second baseman broke an 0-for-15 slump by blasting a two-out, 3-2 pitch from Zach Nuding (2-0).
Momentum seemed to be shifting, as Greenville pulled within a run in the top of the seventh when Christian Vazquez led off with a solo homer. The RiverDogs, however, had other plans as they quickly countered in the home half of the inning when Gary Sanchez recorded an RBI-single off Dennis Neuman.
Making his first 2011 debut, Charle Rosario kept the Drive in the ballgame by allowing just two hits as he recorded all six outs by way of strikeout in the fifth and sixth innings.
The Drive and RiverDogs meet in the fourth contest of the of the five-game series tomorrow evening at 7 PM. Left-hander Manuel Rivera (2-1, 2.40 ERA) will look to even the series as he toes the rubber for Greenville, while Charleston counters with right-hander Shane Greene (1-2, 5.40 ERA).
Following the series in the lowcountry of South Carolina, and an off day, the Drive return home to Greenville on Monday, April 25th.
