PREVIEW: The Delmarva Shorebirds have dropped the last two games on the last at-bat as they gear up for game three against the GreenJackets. The Shorebirds led 10-9 in the bottom of the ninth inning and fell 11-10 in ten innings. The two teams combined for 21 runs on 28 hits while a combined nine errors were made last night. The Shorebirds have lost four games in a row for a second time this season. They also lost four straight between April 11 and April 15.
7 RBI ROAD TRIP: Kieron Pope has seven RBIs on the current six-game road trip. He had two more RBIs last night on a double to the center field wall. Pope has reached base in seven consecutive games.
SIX STRAIGHT FOR DALLES: Shorebirds catcher Justin Dalles is riding a six-game hitting streak into game three of the series. He has recorded multiple hits in each of his last three games played. He also has two RBIs in each of his last two games. He has seven total RBIs in six games played.
12 UNEARNED RUNS: In last night's wild affair, 12 unearned runs came into score. The Shorebirds scored eight unearned runs while the GreenJackets scored four unearned runs. Delmarva committed five errors while Augusta made four.
HIGH SCORING ROAD TRIP: Through six games on the current road swing, the Shorebirds and their opponents have combined for 86 runs (14.33 per game). Their lowest scoring game on the road trip was a 6-2 win over Greensboro on April 15.
11 OF 12: Kipp Schutz has hit safely in 11 of 12 games played this season. He went 2-for-3 last night with two walks. Schutz has reached base in all 12 games this season. The 12 game on-base streak ranks tied for second in the South Atlantic League with teammate Jonathan Schoop and two other players. Bryce Brentz of Greenville is on a 13-game on-base streak.
GOOD START VS. LEFTIES: The Shorebirds are off to a good start this season batting against left-handed arms. They are 20-of-53 (.377) against lefty pitching. The Shorebirds are batting .249 against right-handed pitching (107-of-429). Jonathan Schoop is 6-of-8 against lefties (.750).
GAYLORD COMING AROUND: After recording just three hits in his first six games, Adam Gaylord has five hits in the last three games. He is 5-for-14 during the three-game hit streak.
