Hagerstown Suns News Release
Hagerstown, MD- The Hagerstown Suns (9-4) fell to the Hickory Crawdads (9-4) of the Texas Rangers farm system on Wednesday night by a score of 8-3. This puts the Suns, Crawdads, and Kannapolis Intimidators in a three-way tie for first place in the South Atlantic League's Northern Division.
Suns LHP Matt Grace (1-2), the losing pitcher, was hit around to the tune of four earned runs in 5.0 innings on nine hits, one walk, and three strikeouts. Grace would exit the game in the top of the 6th inning after allowing three earned runs on back-to-back RBI extra base hits by RF Josh Richmond, doubling on a line drive to left field driving in one run, and 2B Odubel Herrera turning on a triple into the right field corner for a two-run, two-bagger. Grace also allowed one run to score in the home half of the 3rd inning when C Tomas Telis ripped an RBI single to right field in front of Suns RF Bryce Harper.
The Crawdads would add a trio of insurance tallies in the away section of the 8th frame. A wild pitch scored 3B Christian Villanueva out of the hands of Hagerstown LHP Chad Jenkins, Telis was again an influence as he collected a 2-RBI double to deep center field, scoring SS Jonathan Roof, who singled, and CF Jacob Skole, who walked.
Hickory RHP Nicholas Tepesch, who received a no-decision, tossed 4.0 innings, allowing three earned runs on nine base hits, while walking no one and fanning three. The Crawdads had six players with multi-hit evenings at the plate.
The winning pitcher of record, RHP Colby Killian was terrific in relief, throwing 3.0 scoreless innings, when striking out three and walking three.
The only Suns run came off a 1st inning 2-run single pulled to left field by C David Freitas and a bases loaded infield single by 3B Blake Kelso.
The Hagerstown Suns will play a doubleheader on Thursday, April 21st to make up a game that was postponed due to rain on Tuesday, April 19th. First pitch will begin at 5:05pm, with the second contest following 30 minutes after.
