December 3, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS --- In advance of tonight's game between the Mississippi RiverKings and Tulsa Oilers in Tulsa, the RiverKings today have signed rookie forward Chris Auger (pronounced OH-zhay). Auger is making his first professional appearance after a four-year NCAA Division One collegiate career at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.
Auger is expected to be in the lineup for tonight's game at Tulsa and will wear number 26.
At UMASS-Lowell, the Belleville, Ontario native played in 117 games, scored 17 goals for 52 points and 38 penalty minutes. Auger's senior season last year was his most productive, as he netted nine goals for 23 points in 36 games, while being tagged for 16 PIMS. Auger's Riverhawks' highlights included scoring the game-winning overtime goal in the team's semi-final victory of the Hockey East Conference tournament in his junior year and fashioning a season-high 52.9% success rate on face offs in his sophomore season.
Prior to his college career, Auger played three years of Junior "A" hockey with the Wellington Dukes of the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League. With the Dukes, Auger scored 81 goals for 177 points and 88 penalty minutes in 137 appearances. He was team captain of the Dukes and also served as member and captain of Team Canada's Under-21 team in 2006.
Auger was a sixth round draft choice (number 169 overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
The RiverKings play Tulsa tonight, then will face the Wichita Thunder at the DeSoto Civic Center on Saturday, December 4th, starting at 7:05 PM. St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital is the featured non-profit MVP for the night, which will include a special game-worn jersey auction after the game, presented by Emergency Mobile Health Care.
