Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

ALLEN, TX - Tobias Whelan scored three goals, including the third period game-winner as the Allen Americans topped the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 5-4 Friday night at the Allen Events Center. The loss drops Bossier-Shreveport to 1-4 against the Amerks this year and puts the teams back into a tie for first place in the CHL standings.

Travis Clayton had a goal and an assist as the Mudbugs held leads of 2-1 and 3-2 during the first two periods of the see-saw affair. Jamie Milam, Jeff Kyrzakos and Clay Plume also tallied in only the third road loss of the season for the ‚¬ËœBugs.

Allen jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when Judd Blackwater broke down the right wing and scored his ninth goal of the year less than three minutes in. The ‚¬ËœBugs answered as Jamie Milam scored on a shorthanded breakaway at 6:14 to tie it at one. Travis Clayton put the Mudbugs up 2-1 three minutes later, beating Adrien LeMay with a perfectly placed wrist shot from the right circle. Tobias Whelan's goal at 12:14 then tied the game once again, sending the teams into the locker room knotted at two.

The battle of the special teams continued into the second frame, as Bossier-Shreveport killed off nearly six full minutes of Allen powerplay time to start the period. After the successful shorthanded run, the Mudbugs re-took the lead on a powerplay of their own when Kyrzakos one-timed Clayton's centering pass into the back of the net on the ‚¬ËœBugs first shot of the period. The Americans tied again late in the period however as Whelan stuffed home a powerplay rebound for his second goal of the night to make it 3-3 after 40 minutes.

Allen went back on top just 38 seconds into the third on a goal by Dave Bonk and then added to the lead on the powerplay as Whelan sent a pass across the slot that was deflected in off the stick of Shawn Limpright in front. Trailing 5-3, the Mudbugs cut the deficit to one when Brett Smith and Steve Crampton combined to set up Plume's tap-in goal with just under seven minutes remaining. The equalizer would not come however as the ‚¬ËœBugs fell for just the sixth time this year.

Brian Foster (7-3-0) made 29 saves in his second straight loss, while Adrien LeMay (8-1-0) made 23 saves to earn the win. Bossier-Shreveport scored two powerplay goals on six opportunities and added Milam's shorthanded tally, but Allen also scored twice on the powerplay in seven chances. The Americans outshot the Mudbugs 34-27.

The ‚¬ËœBugs will now head west to face the Odessa Jackalopes for the first time this season tomorrow night at 7:05 pm the Ector County Coliseum. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 pm on News Radio 710 AM KEEL and the game will also be shown live online on CHL-TV.
