December 3, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

Three Things You Have to Know for This Weekend (Dec. 3-4, 2010)

#1 - Clash of the Titans

The top two teams in the CHL clash on Friday night in Allen, Texas when the Americans (15-4-0) host the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs (16-5-0) at the Allen Event Center. The Americans and Mudbugs lead the way in most statistical categories and are both nearly unbeatable thus far in the 2010-11 season. Allen has handed the Mudbugs three of their five losses this year but trail by two points in the standings. The ‚¬ËœBugs have won nine of their last 10 games with an eight-game win streak mixed in there. On the road, Bossier-Shreveport is 9-2-0 winning five of their last six contests away from home. The Americans have played most of their games on the road this season but are 4-2-0 at home. Judd Blackwater has three goals and three assists in the games versus Bossier-Shreveport this season and Jeff Martens has scored four goals in four games. On Saturday night, Allen hosts Laredo and Bossier-Shreveport travels to Odessa.&nbs p;

#2 - 2009 Championship Re-Match

On Saturday night, the Colorado Eagles and the Texas Brahmas will meet for the only time this season at the NYTEX Sports Centre, the same location that the Brahmas won the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup over the Eagles in 2009. Texas won that series four games to one but only Jason Dietsch, Ross Rouleau and Nathan Saunders remain from that Cup winning team. For the Eagles, Riley Nelson, Kevin Ulanski, Aaron Schneekloth, Andrew Penner, Steve Haddon, Adam Hogg and Jason Beatty all played in that series. Texas has gone 6-2-1 in their last nine games and have moved into third place by themselves in the Berry Conference. They host Missouri on Friday night and for Colorado, they are in first place in the Turner Conference and are in the midst of a four-game road trip that has them 1-1-0 so far. Game three on the trip is in Wichita on Friday.

#3 - Streaking Komets Look to Make Up Ground

The Fort Wayne Komets will look to continue their winning ways with a pair of games this weekend. On Friday, the Komets host the Bloomington PrairieThunder and on Saturday, they travel to Dayton. Bloomington won the only previous match-up with Fort Wayne and Dayton is 2-0-0 against the Komets. Fort Wayne has won three straight games but are still in the basement in the Turner Conference with 11 points (five behind eighth place Quad City). Defenseman Frankie DeAngelis was named the Oakley CHL Player of the Week earlier in the week after scoring a pair of goals with five assists in the Komets three wins a week ago.

Numbers Game

7- The number of home games the Allen Americans will play in the month of December compared to just two road games (@ RGV and @ TEX). The Americans have played 13 of 19 games so far on the road posting an 11-2-0 record.

22-5- The goal differential for the Rapid City Rush on their current four-game losing streak. Twice during the streak, the Rush have allowed eight goals losing 8-0 to Odessa last Friday and 8-3 to Wichita on Wednesday. Rush goaltender and the reigning CHL Rookie of the Year Danny Battochio has gone 0-3-2 in his last five decisions but has allowed just 13 goals over that span.

6- The number of goals that Colorado's Adam Hogg has scored in the Eagles last three games including a hat trick in Tuesday's win at Odessa. Hogg scored just two goals in Colorado's first 11 games but now sits with eight goals and six assists on the season.

9- The current league-leading point streak of Odessa's Sebastien Thinel (named the Sher-Wood CHL Player of the Month for November on Thursday). During his nine-game point streak, Thinel has nine goals and 11 assists and is currently the league-leader with 34 points (15-19=34). The Jacks play home to Laredo on Friday and home to Bossier-Shreveport on Saturday.

7- The number of goals that RGV defenseman Darcy Campbell has scored in his last eight games. He currently leads all d-men in points (19) and goals (7).

5- The number of games, out of 15, that the Bloomington PrairieThunder has scored the first goal this season going 4-1-0 in those games. The PrairieThunder have been able to manufacture points even when falling behind as they are 2-5-1 when trailing after 40 minutes and have won two of the five games they have trailed after one period.

8- The league-leading number of one-goal wins the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs have this season, although only one of their last four wins have come by one goal. The ‚¬ËœBugs are 8-2-0 in the close games while the team struggling the most in the tight contests is the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees who have posted a 3-6-2 record in one-goal games.

+15- The plus/minus rating of the Thunder's line of Bobby Hughes, Jesse Bennefield and Troy Schwab over their last two games, both wins. The trio has combined for four goals and nine assists in those two games. The Thunder are 8-7-2 this season compared to 3-12-2 last season through 17 games. Wichita's eighth win during the 2009-10 season did not come until Feb. 21. Their next win will match their entire win total from last season when they posted a 9-50-5 record.

This Date in CHL History (Dec. 3, 2006)

The Memphis RiverKings defeated the Youngstown SteelHounds in a shootout by a final score of 4-3. Current RiverKings goaltender Larry Sterling made 35 saves in the game and stopped all four shooters in the shootout including current teammates Jeff Christian and Chris Richards who both played for the ‚¬ËœHounds. During the game, Christian scored two goals and had an assist and Richards helped on both of Christian's scores. Current RiverKings Louis Dumont (goal) and Derek Landmesser (assist) got on the score sheet on the game as well. Current ‚¬ËœKings head coach Kevin Kaminski was at that game standing behind the Youngstown bench.
