New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Fisher Cats starter B. J. LaMura kept New Hampshire in the ballgame, but the Harrisburg Senators scored the game-winner in the ninth inning on way to a 2-1 win Wednesday in front of 4,418 at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. Offensively, the Fisher Cats out-hit the Senators 6-4, and was led by David Cooper's 2-for-4 performance.
Harrisburg (73-63), who salvaged their second win in their ninth meeting against New Hampshire this season, got on the scoreboard in the top of the first to gain the early 1-0 advantage. Josh Johnson's one-out double turned into a run after an error on a pickoff attempt sent him to third, and a 6-3 putout brought him home.
LaMura settled down from the first on, but received the no-decision after his quality start. LaMura retired 18 of 21 batters, including striking out the side in the sixth. The right-hander left after six innings, allowing the one unearned run on two hits while striking out five and walking one.
Vince Bongiovanni followed by holding the Senators scoreless through the seventh and eighth innings before relinquishing a run in the ninth. Bongiovanni (6-6) received the loss after surrendering a leadoff double to Johnson, who was plated four batters later on a ground ball through the infield from Edgardo Baez.
New Hampshire (78-58) tied it at one a piece on Ricardo Nanita's first Fisher Cats RBI. Nanita, who was signed as a free agent by the Blue Jays from the Mexican League, singled home Cooper on a ball hit past the second baseman. Cooper led off the inning by belting a double down the right field line and moved to third on Matt Liuzza's ground ball to the right side of the infield.
Harrisburg right-hander Tanner Roark held New Hampshire to one run through 6.1 innings on five hits and two walks. Jack Spradlin (1-1) recorded the victory after throwing five pitches and retiring one batter to leave a runner on scoring position in the bottom of the eighth. Cole Kimball got his 11th save of the season after stranding the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position in the ninth.
The home regular season schedule concludes Thursday with the final contest of the four-game set against the Harrisburg Senators at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. New Hampshire ace Kyle Drabek (14-9) will be opposed by Senators starter Aaron Thompson (4-13). Fisher Cats Pre Game begins at 6:15 p.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman & Dick Lutsk.
An Atlas Fireworks Show follows the game. Fans will also be supporting Nashua North student Cooper Doucette and the SuperCoop Fund. Playoff tickets and 2011 Season Tickets are now available. Visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005 for details.
