Mississippi shuts out BayBears for the second time in three games

Pearl, MS- In the third game of a five game series, the M-Braves cruise by the Mobile Bay Bears, 4-0. It was the 7th shutout victory of the season for the Braves and their second in the last three games. The biggest hit of the game came in the 6th inning, as Mauro Gomez drilled his team leading, 11th home run of the season. The Braves would use four pitchers in the shutout and take a two games to one lead in the series. 

With the game scoreless through five inning, Mississippi had the top of the order coming up in the 6th. The inning started with Yasser Gomez reaching on an error to first-baseman, Sean Coughlin. After sac-bunt moved him to second base, Eric Dunan lined a double into the left field corner to score Gomez. With the Braves leading 1-0, Mauro Gomez came up and crushed a two-run homer over the left field wall to give Mississippi a 3-0 lead. The final Braves run came in the 8th as Mauro Gomez, Michael Daniel and Donell Linares collected consecutive singles. The Linares single scored Gomez and gave Mississippi a 4-0 advantage.

In the 9th, Juan Abreu sat down the side in order and struck out two. This followed Kyle Cofield throwing four shutout innings. Richard Sullivan put up three scoreless frames and Yeliar Castro pitched one shutout inning in his double-A debut. Mississippi has now taken two of three from Mobile and outscored the Bay Bears 7-4 in what has been a series that has been dominated by good pitching. 

Tomorrow night at Trustmark Park, the Braves and Bay Bears will play the fourth game in the series. The Braves will use RHP Randall Delgado (0-2; 6.00), against Mobile's LHP Tom Layne (10-5; 3.88). First pitch is set for 7:05.
