PREVIEW: The Shorebirds aim to take a commanding two games to love lead in the series against the best team in the South Atlantic League. The Shorebirds also look to win their fourth straight game. The Shorebirds are now in third place in the Northern Division, three games back of Lakewood.

A POWER STROKE: In the ninth inning last night, Garabez Rosa belted his first home run since April 20th and his second of the season. He went 65 games without a homer until last night. He also went 226 at-bats without a home run. The Higuey, DR native hit six home runs in 64 games last season for Aberdeen.

PITCHING AND DEFENSE: Over the last five games, the Shorebirds have only allowed 10 runs total. Over the last three nights, Shorebirds starters (Noel, Moreland and Beal), have gone through 22 innings (possible 28) and have surrendered only 17 hits and two earned runs. The Shorebirds have also committed only two errors in the last six games.

LOCAL PRODUCT BAXTER ACTIVATED: On Thursday afternoon, T.J. Baxter was activated off the Disabled List while Mikey Planeta was placed on the DL. Baxter went 0-for-4 last night in his first game since June 20. Baxter played his high school baseball at nearby Toms River East. In 2004, he was the Ocean County Player of the Year and he was also the Offensive Player of the Year in the Shore Conference.

NINE RBIS VERSUS LWD: Steve Bumbry has nine RBIs against the BlueClaws in nine games this season. No other Shorebirds player has more than three. Bumbry has notched 36 percent of his RBIs (25) against the BlueClaws.

PLAYING QUICK IN JULY: The Shorebirds have only played one game over three hours in the second half (14 games). Eight of those games have been played under two hours and thirty minutes.

LAST 11: The Shorebirds bullpen has been very good of late. Over the last 11 innings, they have allowed only one earned run.

LOWEST BATTING AVERAGE IN MAY: The Shorebirds are batting just .218 through the first eight games in May. The batting average is the lowest in the South Atlantic League.

CAROLUS 1-FOR-22: Levi Carolus is 1-for-22 in his last six games (.045). Carolus is hitless in his last 14 at-bats.

BUMBRY AWAY FROM PERDUE: Steve Bumbry had an RBI and a single last night to continue his stellar play on the road. He is batting .342 on the road (113 points higher than at home).

THREW THEM OUT: Shorebirds catchers Luis Bernardo and Justin Dalles have tossed out six potential base stealers in the last four games. Bernardo is throwing out 49 percent of runners (23CS/24SB) while Dalles is tossing out 29 percent (8CS/20SB).

ON-BASE STREAK ENDS: Last night marked the first time in 22 games played that T.J. Baxter did not reach base (0-4). He reached base in every game he played from May 21 through June 20. The streak is the fifth longest in the SAL this season.
