Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that rookie forward Chris Higgins has been loaned to the team from their American Hockey League affiliate Syracuse Crunch. In six games with the Crunch this season, Higgins has been held scoreless and turned in a -3 plus-minus rating.
The 23-year-old Lynnfield, Massachusetts native made his pro debut with the Crunch this season after skating four collegiate seasons at Boston University. In 159 games at BU, Higgins amassed 49 goals and 84 assists for 133 points, including a career high 48 in 2008-09, his senior year.
Prior to Boston University, Higgins skated one season with the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs of the Eastern Junior Hockey League, where he tied for 13th in the league in scoring with 53 points (22-31) in 44 games.
Higgins joins former Boston University teammate Jason Lawrence, who was acquired by the Gladiators in a trade with Charlotte on November 26.
The Gladiators continue their 7th season in the ECHL on Friday, January 8th vs. South Carolina at 7:35 p.m. The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and Columbus Blue Jackets and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
