Marlies Sign Pair of Defencemen to AHL Contracts

Jeff Jackson, General Manager of the Toronto Marlies, announced today that the club has signed defencemen Todd Perry and Eric Werner to American Hockey League contracts. In keeping with club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Perry, 22, played in 70 games with the Toronto Marlies during the 2008-09 season collecting seven points (two goals, five assists) and 81 penalty minutes. The 6'3, 215-pound defenceman scored his first career AHL goal on December 26 against the Lake Erie Monsters. The Ingleside, Ontario native skated in all six of the Marlies playoff games against the Manitoba Moose and recorded two assists and six penalty minutes. The Marlies named Perry the 2008-09 Rookie of the Year prior to their final game of the season last year.

Werner, 26, played in 15 games last season with the Manchester Monarchs, collecting three points (one goal, two assists) and 10 penalty minutes. The 5'10, 185-pound defenceman also suited up for the Augsburg Panthers (DEL) in 2008-09, appearing in 15 games and tallying four assists with 37 penalty minutes.

The Marlies open the 2009-10 regular season on Sunday, October 4 against their division-rivals, the Hamilton Bulldogs - AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens - at Ricoh Coliseum at 4 p.m. For the full 2009-10 schedule please visit the Marlies official website.
