Two Players Assigned To Bulldogs

MONTREAL, QC - The Montreal Canadiens announced tonight that defenceman Shawn Belle and forward Eric Neilson were released from training camp and assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs. The 'Dogs will be leaving for Edinburgh, Scotland on Tuesday where they will hold training camp until September 28th.

Belle, 24, played in 60 games for the Bulldogs last season accumulating 13 points (three goals and 10 assists) along with 93 penalty minutes. The native of Edmonton, Alberta has played in a total of nine NHL games, all with the Minnesota Wild, earning one assist. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound defenceman was drafted in the 1st round, 30th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Neilson, 25, spent last season with the Peoria Rivermen where he led the team in penalty minutes with 207. The native of Fredericton, New Brunswick scored three goals in 50 games for the Rivermen in 2008-2009. The 6-foot-1, 201-pound right wing was drafted in the 5th round, 143rd overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

The Bulldogs will travel to Edinburgh, Scotland tomorrow to begin training camp. The 'Dogs will compete for the Gardiner Cup against the AHL's Toronto Marlies and the UK Elite League's Edinburgh Capitals and Belfast Giants. The Bulldogs will meet their archrival, the Marlies, in an exhibition contest at 2:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, September 24th. Hamilton will begin the four-team tournament with a semi-final game against the Belfast Giants at 12:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, September 26th. The two winning teams from Saturday's semi-final games will play for the Gardiner Cup in the Championship game at 12:30 p.m. EST on Sunday, September 27th while the two losing teams will face-off in the consolation final on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. EST.
