
Sea Dogs Receive Luis Exposito from Salem

Portland, Maine- The Boston Red Sox have promoted catcher Luis Exposito from Single-A Salem to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs. Exposito will wear uniform number 23. Sea Dogs' catcher John Otness was transferred to Triple-A Pawtucket. Additionally, Sea Dogs' right-handed relieve Richie Lentz has rejoined the club after completing a rehab assignment with Single-A Lowell. While right-handed pitcher Chad Rhoades was placed on the disabled list.
Exposito, 22, hit .274 (79-for-288), with 24 doubles, six home runs, and 35 RBI in 76 games with Single-A Salem. Exposito is rated by Baseball America as the 15th ranked prospect in the Red Sox organization. Last season, Exposito split time between Single-A Greenville and Single-A Lancaster hitting .293 (122-for-417), with a career high 21 home runs and 68 RBI in 104 games, and was selected to the South Atlantic League All-Star team. The Hialeah, Florida native was drafted by the Red Sox in the 31st round of the 2005 first-year player draft.
Otness has combined to hit .250 (29-for-116) in 33 games between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket this season. The 27 year-old was signed by the Boston Red Sox as a non-drafted free agent on June 18, 2004.
The 24 year-old, Lentz has been sidelined since June 21st. In 19 games with the Sea Dogs this season, Lentz has posted a 1-0 record with an 8.61 ERA. In nine rehab appearances with Single-A Lowell, Lentz notched a 2-0 record with a 3.95 ERA. Lentz split the 2008 season between Single-A Lancaster and Double-A Portland, combining to go 5-5 with 2 saves and a 3.14 ERA. He averaged 13.0 strikeouts per 9.0 innings. His 112 strikeouts were the most of any Red Sox minor league reliever.
Rhoades leads the team with 43 appearances this season. The 26 year-old has posted a 4-1 record with two saves and a 4.30 ERA. He was signed by the Red Sox as a non-drafted free agent on May 23, 2006.
