Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GRAND CHUTE, WI - Jarred Bogany tripled, homered, and helpt the Quad Cities River Bandits build enough of a lead to hold off a late charge by the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Sunday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field. The Bandits beat the Rattlers 5-3 and won two of the three games in the weekend series between the Midwest League teams.

Wisconsin (48-57 overall, 14-21 second half) took a lead right away. Juan Sanchez led off the first inning with a bunt single and went to second on a throwing error. Pete Fatse was next and his double to left knocked in Sanchez for a 1-0 lead.

But that was about all the Rattlers could do against River Bandits starting pitcher Miguel Tapia. The righty allowed two more hits over the next four innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out six to give his team a chance to get the lead.

Quad Cities (46-59, 16-19) broke through against Rattlers starting pitcher Evan Frederickson in the top of the fifth inning. Bogany tripled to start the frame and he scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Later in the inning, Nick Tyson relieved Frederickson with runners at first and third with one out. Frederickson finished his day with five walks and five strikeouts over 4-1/3 innings.

Tyson got Osvaldo Morales to send a slow chopper to short. Wisconsin got the force at second, but Morales beat the throw to first that could have ended the inning with a double play and the go ahead run scored.

Frederick Parejo doubled in a run in the seventh inning to give the River Bandits a 3-1 lead.

Bogany made it a 5-1 game with a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the eighth. That was crucial.

Quad Cities reliever Dave Carpenter, who had allowed two hits in the eighth inning without allowing a run, walked Michael Vass with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Derrick McPhearson followed with a single to right to put runners at the corners.

Erik Miller singled to send Vass home with a run and McPhearson around to third base. Carpenter struck out pinch hitter Jose Duran for the second out, but Sanchez singled to left to knock in McPhearson with the second run of the inning. The play also brought Fatse to the plate as the potential winning run.

The River Bandits went to Matt Frevert out of the bullpen and he retired Fatse on a grounder to first to end the game.

Wisconsin begins a four-game series with the Kane County Cougars on Monday night. RJ Seidel (0-0, 4.32) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The Cougars will counter with Mathieu Leblanc-Poirier (2-5, 4.96).

Monday is a Q'Doba Q'Monday at the ballpark. Fans who purchase a lunch entree at the Fox River Mall location of Q'Doba will receive a free ticket to the Timber Rattlers game. Also, the first 1,000 fans into the gates will receive a poster of All-Star pitcher Wily Peralta from Express Convenience Centers.
