Cougars Fall to the Tincaps

Geneva, Illinois - In the second of a three-game series against the Fort Wayne Tincaps, the Cougars were shutout for a third consecutive game, 5-0. It was a rapid pace through the first seven innings, but in the top of the eighth Fort Wayne tacked five runs on the board after a couple of costly errors. Anvioris Ramirez was dominant in his first start as a member of the Kane County Cougars.

21 year-old Anvioris Ramirez pitched in his first game after being called up to the Cougars on Wednesday (7/22). He was in total control on the mound throwing six innings of shutout ball. He gave up three hits and one walk, while striking out three. Matt Fitts came into relieve Ramirez, and struck out the side in the seventh inning. But in the eighth Fort Wayne scored 5 runs on 3 hits and 2 errors. Fits left after working 1/3 in the 8th and Scott Deal came into finish the game. The five runs were charged to Fitts, but all of them were un-earned. Matt falls to 3-7 this season while the winning pitcher for the Tincaps was reliever Alexis Lara (2-0). Simone Castro started the game for the Tincaps, and struck out 8 in five innings.

The Kane County offense only collected two hits, while striking out 15 times at the plate. The Cougars have not scored a run in 30 straight innings of play dating back to Monday in West Michigan. Steve Parker was 1-2 with a double in the first inning, and Franklin Hernandez had the only other base knock for the Cougars.
